Pavle Levi

Assistant Professor, Stanford University

Dr. Levi teaches and researches film history and theory at Stanford University, and he was recognized with a teaching award in 2006. He has written several essays on cinema and nationalism, psychoanalytic film theory, and experimental cinema, and he coedited Filosofska igracka (A Philosophical Toy), a selection of Annette Michelson's writings on film and modernist art. His first book, Disintegration in Frames: Aesthetics and Ideology in the Yugoslav and Post-Yugoslav Cinema, was published in early 2007, and considers the relationship between aesthetics and ideology in contemporary Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav films. Dr. Levi is currently working on a second book project, "Cinema by Other Means", a study of non-cinematic methods that have been used to produce films. His talk will be drawn from this new project.
